Abertay Sports
Most recent success: Abertay
Gaelic football team
Honours: British Champions
2001
As you may have read many articles related to
coming to University and you have tonnes upon tonnes of junk
bank mail and stuff, I am here to try and ease the agony of
it all and attempt to relax you with information about sport.
If you are a new comer to sport at Abertay
you will be more than welcome within any team. Are
you thinking yeah yeah I heard it all before?
Beginners re-ignite passion for sport,
as athletes require training. It really is the taking part that
counts. New recruits are always welcome within the whole community
of clubs.
Abertay clubs are constantly on the look out for
willing sports people to contribute to our recognised success.
Sports people will be interested in this
..
With your help and enthusiasm we will be
contributing towards a shared goal with fun and good "craic*"
along the way
.. of course.
(*craic - "crack", noun: The background information
regarding something: What's the craic? Irish dialect - Like u didn't
know that already, eh
-Ed)
Anyway, please don't go astray when you arrive at University.
Get involved and sign up to various clubs, then delegate
towards a commitment when you feel the time is right.
Most clubs are already training - so do ask questions.
If you are in doubt about any little detail we have a sports development
officer (cool eh..) For any related sport matter whatsoever;
simply contact Mark Munro
to get info. Abertay Sports Union - which sees 2001 as its
Birth Year, is the heart and soul of Sport at YOUR Union.
Contact Laura Neave
to get involved in any sport... If it isn't already established
- you can set up a team or a club easily with the help of
Your Sports Union...
Facilities:
£21.50 for a sports pass is great
- and is a service made possible by OUR Union - Abertay Union.
One spot that is a must to go to is the swimming pool near
Tesco's on Riverside ~ Slides and stuff, excellent craic
to go with flat mates, or the birds from across the way (or blokes
depending ;-)). Your sports card entitles you to free access
to the above as well as other gyms, sports halls, Astroturf pitches,
sauna's, and various other facilities throughout Dundee.
If you don't/can't spend £21.50 on a pass
there is a free gym in our Students Union, which is friendly,
and relaxed. However, gym sessions don't beat the lure of
Championship matches and winning trophies with a team - therefore,
I highly recommend joining a team
I feel proud to inform you about Abertay Gaelic
football team. Within this organisation Abertay have successfully
won 3 championships on
the trot since 1999. Abertay Gaelic football club has developed
various nationalities such as Irish, French, Scottish and Australian
footballers. Everyone and anyone are welcome
to join.
Women's Gaelic football is exciting and
every bit as competitive as the men's, cleaning up in Stirling with
the Champions of Scotland Award
2000 for the women's team also.
The rugby and soccer teams (men's and women's)
are also very strong clubs within the University and you will no
doubt be seeing them about the Union. Why not even support our Sports
teams - Listings will be available in the sports section of all
sporting events and locations... Check them out - GO ABERTAY,
GO!!!
If you are not interested in participating in
the actual sporting event (injured or whatnot) I would reassure
you 100% that we/clubs are always looking for more members to help
with the committee or work in the background of things and
still have a good craic and boozy sessions
afterwards
of course.
Interested? Send your details to receive info
on the clubs of your choice... (Below)
I've had a couple of people
who have already questioned about sports clubs and they will now
be training with their clubs from next week, so don't hang about,
get into a club.
This is just a friendly wee note to inform you
of your various options, no pressure - its totally up to you
what you do.
All the best and good luck,
Francie McCabe
