On Sunday 18th of November Abertay Ladies Gaelic Football
Team, travelled to Edinburgh for their first challenge match of
the season.
The Abertay Ladies were quite confident when they arrived even
though, Abertay knew that Edinburgh had more experience.
When the whistle blew to signal the beginning of the first half,
the Abertay ladies burst into action and it looked as though Abertay
were going to dominate.
The mid-feild, Ashling, instantly won the ball and impressively
passed it directly to the front line, where Angela and Fiona battled
against Edinburgh's dominating backs. Harriott Watt halted play
there and quickly the ball was passed up the left hand wing and
Harriot-watt had there first score.
There continued to be endless attempts made by the Abertay backs
(defence), Andrea and Gemma, Edinburgh's scores were numerous in
the first half.
Abertay continued to be defensive for the reminder of the
first half, but Harriot-watt's experience was their advantage. At
the end of the first half the score was 6-0 to Harriot-watt.
After a short rest and adjustment to the team, due to an injury
to Mary (Abertay player), Abertay returned to the game. The speedy
Ashling Brenda and new comer Laura, worked together endlessly trying
to get a score and made known the poweress and stamina. Abertay
felt that the referee was oblivious to the disgraceful behaviour
the Harott- watt ladies illustrated. However, the Abertay girls
kept there cool and made many impressive challenges. The (Abertay)
girls dominated the ball and play for most of the second half but
could not finish it with a score to reflect their many efforts.
The final score was 1-13 to nil but this has not disheartened the
Abertay girls as they know this is only the start for this up and
coming Gaelic team.
Woman of the match: Andrea
Poland
"Andrea displayed excellent drive throughout the whole match
and was continuously eager and hungry for the ball. A performance
worthy of woman of the match. Competition lies however close to
the ranks for this prestigious honour
..Who
will receive this award for the next match" (Management).

(P.R.O.)
P.S. On a very special
note Abertay management would like to state that this was an extremely
good performance from the Abertay girls. Having 5 players who
never played before was great to see.
