Comedy Coming to Abertay Union...

University will bring you some of the greatest laughs of your life,
but the sound of laughter at Abertay is about to become even louder.
Once again Abertay does the City of Discovery proud, by bringing
you the first regular student comedy night.
Starting on 25th October Abertay Union will be host to some great
comedians every month. We've got comics from the Fringe, London,
and even TV land. But of course we'll be harnessing the local talent.
And Abertay union is the perfect venue, it's gone from resembling
a boring local bar to being a super-amazing-mega unionÔ(that's
not a real trademark, I made it up, sorry); well shall we say a
few changes have been made.
The Abertay Comedy night will bring you comics such as, Ben Darcey
and Brandon Reed - these guys are two top comics from Dundee. Ben
has played everywhere from London to Orkney, including Jongleurs
and the Comedy Store, whilst Brandon has just got back from a stretch
at the Fringe festival as well being heavily involved with the Dundee
Comedy Club.
Another top comedian from the fringe will be Bene Linchestikov
(I s**t you not
) aka Jason Hall, he'll be headlining the first
night with some great character based humour. We'll also bring some
great comedians from elsewhere. Anthony J Brown will be here, after
becoming runner-up in last years BBC1 New Comedy Award, appearing
in "Phoenix Nights" on Channel 4 and recently supporting
Rob Newman, it promises to be a good show.
We'll also have special nights in the future. Currently we're looking
at getting big name comics to do a night all alone - who knows who'll
be interested. We've also got a special Brummie all-starsä
night lined up; this will include James Cook and, a personal favourite
comedian of mine (but don't tell the others), Andy Robinson. We've
also got some top female comics coming, including the brilliant
Susan Fraser who will be bringing her many characters, audience
participation and improvisation to warm you guys up for the main
acts.
So now you've seen what we'll be offering you I'm sure you'll be
thinking 'I can do that'. When making your mates laugh have you
ever thought you could do stand up? Although just taking the piss
out of the union bar staff when pissed doesn't class as comedy.
Think you're the next Eddie Izzard or Billy Connelly. Well now is
your chance, every month we'll have an Open Mic spot. This involves
a new comic, or a wannabe comic, who'll do a short spot to enable
them to get noticed. Who knows if they do well, maybe they'll get
booked for a proper slot another night (this means actually getting
money - which you can spend on what you like). If you think you've
got what it takes then mail me on Matt.Ridgway@AbertayUnion.com
and I'll fit you in one night, it's as simple as that because we
want to be an innovator in finding new comics as well as being one
of the best student unions in the country.
I'm sure after reading what's on offer you can't wait to get down
for a laugh. Well the first night will be on 25th October, entry
will be a mere 3 quid and the doors will be at 8:30. Once inside
you'll be able to sit at a table in comfort with nibbles and munchies,
just to get you comfy because once you're in and start laughing,
you aren't going to be able to leave for a while - well you will
be allowed to leave, we're not locking you in or anything crazy
like that. For more information about the comedy night or if you
want to book a spot please contact me Matt.Ridgway@AbertayUnion.com
