Event: League (2nd last match)
Opposition:
vs Robert Gordon University
Date: Saturday 10/11/01 @ 14:00
Location: Aberdeen (Away)Result:
Abertay 4:16 (28 pts) V RGU (Aberdeen) 1:05 (8 pts)Arriving at Aberdeen
after 78 miles or so of road, the Abertay lads were glad to get
a small rest and breath of fresh air.Mickey Rea and Damien
Treacy then began preparations for the "Tay Lads"
to focus on the coming game. With James Carmody away playing
in the ¼ finals in Ireland and 2 others missing Abertay were
still focused on the game in hand.
The match itself started with several newcomers including Stephen
Fitzpatrick (Down) in Midfield, Cormac (Waterford) and
Darren Collins (Fermanagh) in the forwards. Robert Gordon's
initiated attacks against the Abertay lads to start off with
and startled a couple of viewers as well as players. With this in
mind the mentality and overall eagerness of Abertay took over.
Balls were been won in Midfield and distributed beautifully and
quickly ("which is what Abertay are crying out for" Francie
Mc Cabe).
Abertay were having plenty of opportunities. Soon regaining respect,
taking over the game, in possession, scores, skill and so fourth. On
the scoring side of things big Dave must off had at least
2 goals disallowed because of the square ball rule along with Mc
Cabe's first goal being disallowed. However, Mickey Rea was
speaking to some Robert Gordon's representatives and reckons that
Francie Mc Cabe's following goal hit approximately 87.7 miles per
hour.Defensively Abertay (almost at will) would then not let Robert
Gordon's score. Robert Gordon's goal even seemed to be a dubious
decision. No disrespect to the referee as he had a great game.Player's
man of the match went to Cathal Magil (Tyrone) with Liam Flynn (Galway)
getting close to the award. The game overall seemed to have some
quality football involved and the league champions decider against
rival's at Dundee University will be a massive one to watch (next
Sunday @ Dawson Park 09/12/01).
Assistant Public Relations officer Conor Feehan has commented on
compiling a report regarding the Dundee game, as well as help from
Davitt O' Shannon.
Progression: Abertay have confirmation
that they will be progressing to the British Finals in Birmingham
(Feb 2002) with points Accumulated in the Scottish league 2000/2001.
Sports Awards: Honours to be
held for the Trech Cup team (00/01) at
Abertay 26/01/02 (date not confirmed).
