ALBUM REVIEW
Jonny Lang - Lie To Me
Well what can I say, this young man is the antithesis of what the
'blues' is meant to be. The throaty black voice, the great riffs
and
solos combined with musical soulful heartache make him a 'scary
prospect' for the future. He made this album when only 16 and had
only
been playing the guitar since he was 13, this type of artist only
comes
around once in a generation.
The album opens with 'Lie To Me', a brilliant 'rough' blues tune.
The
keyboard intro is reminiscent of Stevie Wonders 'Superstition' and
Lang's guitar playing is very unique. But what amazes me the most
is
that great voice of his, he sounds as if he's been smoking and drinking
for 30 years! Also on the album is the old blues tune 'Good Morning
Little School Girl' made famous by John Lee Hooker, look out for
a great
harmonica solo and some fine phrasing riffs from Lang.
This man is the best thing to happen to the blues since Stevie
Ray
Vaughan. He has it all and at such a young age he should mature
into
something great. Muddy Waters said, "The blues had a baby,
and they
called it rock & roll" well personally I think the blues
had a baby and
called him Jonny Lang.
