MOULIN
ROUGE By
Jen Joules October 2001 You may not have thought that the two leading actors in this
film would have been able to pull off a musical but with the help
of Baz Luhrman (director) this was well achieved. Ewan McGregor
plays a Bohemian poet in this tragic love story while Nicole Kidman
plays the highest paid Courtesan in a Parisian Nightclub.
This film was difficult to get into at the beginning as it had a very
different style to any film that I had seen before, but after about
20 or so minutes the film really starts to become alive in front of
your eyes. Moulin Rouge at times reminded me of a pantomime with the
costumes, elaborate make up and a "baddie" that you want
to 'boo' and 'hiss' at. The main thing that stood out for me in this
film was the use of colour whether it be in the make up, the costume
design or the set design it really was quite breath taking at times.
Basically what I saw in this film was good cinema and I would recommend
it to anyone. Go see it...
